BROOKSVILLE - The first phase of the Lake Lindsey Road improvement project is under way, and motorists can expect to see work being done until around February 2014.
The project will begin at U.S. 98 and proceed east to Jacobs Way.
Crews will widen the road to 12-foot lanes, install 4-foot paved shoulders on both sides, replace two culverts and add new driveway connections for residential and agricultural properties.
The county budgeted $1.6 million for the project but the winning bidder, Goodwin Brothers Construction, is doing it for $817,633, said Mark Guttman, engineering services manager.
Guttman said the county determined the road needed improving for safety reasons and anticipated growth capacity.
The road will remain open during construction, which will proceed one lane at a time.
