Man accused of lewd acts on child gets 30 days in jail

Published:

BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville man was sentenced to 30 days in jail on Tuesday on charges of misdemeanor battery.

Hernando Today previously reported Mark Lettieri, 49, was arrested in January 2013 on two counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a 12-year-old girl.

According to a sheriff office's report, Lettieri was staying in the same house as the girl on the evening of Oct. 6, 2012, and touched her breasts on two occasions that night.

The girl told an adult in the house, and Lettieri returned to Hillsborough County, where he was living.

Lettieri was denied a law enforcement escort to retrieve personal items from the house the next day, according to the sheriff's office.

Lettieri was released on $30,000 bail the same day he was booked into the Hernando County Jail.

He was later charged with a single count of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child. Per the plea deal, the charge was changed to misdemeanor battery due to issues with the evidence. Lettieri's trial was set to begin Tuesday.

Lettieri will turn himself in at court in March to begin his sentence. He will serve 1 year probation upon release.

He is facing a felony count of sexual battery on a victim over 12 years old in Sumter County, according to court records.
