Man arrested for counterfeit bills, Hernando deputies say

Published:

Citrus County deputies arrested a man on a Hernando County warrant after authorities here say he tried to spend $600 of counterfeit bills in Hernando in December.

Shawn Hendricks tried to purchase items totalling $632.11 from a Wal-Mart, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. Hendricks gave the clerk six fake $100 bills and two authentic $20 bills, deputies said.

After the clerk noticed the bills were counterfeit, Hendricks took back the $20 bills and left the store before law enforcement arrived, deputies said.

A tipster identified Hendricks and his girlfriend after the sheriff's office released video surveillance from the incident.

Hendricks, 40, was arrested Saturday on charges of uttering a forged instrument in Citrus County. His booking information lists a Lacoochee address, and his bail was set at $2,000.

Hernando court records show Hendricks was convicted of misdemeanor petit theft in 2010.
