SPRING HILL - A Brooksville man was arrested Monday after allegedly taking items from Walmart and attempting to flee.
According to a sheriff's office arrest affidavit, Randy Fendick, 30, was spotted opening up an Xbox hard drive from its packaging and putting the item in his pocket. Fendick then concealed a range finder, fishing reel and rifle scope in his shorts, according to the report.
When Fendick was walking out of the store at 1485 Commercial Way, a loss prevention officer and two assistant managers approached him. Fendick tried to run, and was physically restrained by the loss prevention officer.
Fendick later told a sheriff's deputy he had been kicked out of his house and had no food. According to Fendick, an "acquaintance" told him to try to steal from Walmart, and the man admitted to stealing the items, totalling $566.96. The Brooksville man was booked on charges of grand theft and resisting the recovery of property. He is being held on $1,500 bond.
