BROOKSVILLE -

A Brooksville man was arrested Friday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault/battery on a person 65 years of age or older, and witness tampering after getting into a fight with his 71-year-old mother, according to an arrest affidavit issued by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Larry Earl Stone, 49, of 7243 Nightwalker Road, lived with his mother at this residence where a verbal argument took place.

The argument became heated, the affidavit reads, so Stone’s mother went into her bedroom in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but Stone followed her into the room. And kicked a nighstand, shattering a lamp.

Stone’s mother picked up a cordless phone and attempted to call 9-1-1, but Stone grabbed the phone out of her hand and smashed it on the ground, disabling it. The woman attempted to leave the bedroom, but Stone then pushed her with his hand, causing her to lose balance and stagger backward.

Stone then went to the garage for a small caliber handgun and, while holding the firearm, said to his mother, “I should just shoot you.”

“This statement, along with the defendant’s action created a well-founded fear that violence was imminent,” the affidavit shows.

Stone’s mother was finally able to leave the residence and call law enforcement.

Police found the broken lamp out in the yard, and the firearm was in the garage. Stone admitted to damaging the lamp and telephone, according to the sheriff’s office, and is being held at the Hernando County Jail without bond, since the charges are domestic in nature.

Alcohol was involved, according to the affidavit.
