BROOKSVILLE - A Homosassa man being treated Saturday in the Oak Hill Hospital emergency room was arrested after allegedly becoming belligerent with medical staff, and throwing medical equipment and medication throughout the emergency room.

A Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrest report shows that Joshua Stewart, 36, was highly intoxicated when he started yelling obscenities at medical staff and demanding medication.

A medical care provider went into the emergency room and told Stewart he couldn't receive medication until he was evaluated at which time Stewart pushed him "on the left shoulder as though trying to push (him) off his feet to the ground," according to the report.

Stewart was then restrained by medical staff to a hospital bed with soft restraints and sedated, the report shows.

After being treated and discharged from the hospital, Stewart was taken into custody and charged with battery on a medical care provider, and held at the Hernando County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Jail records show Stewart has not been arrested in Hernando County in the past.
