BROOKSVILLE - A North Carolina man continues to be held on $10,500 after battering two law enforcement officers, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Responding to calls of a suspicious person around 3 a.m. Friday near Donnelly's Deli at 2112 Mariner Blvd. in Spring Hill, deputies found Dennis Wayne Manthey, 50, who appeared to be drunk.

Manthey lunged at Deputies Brian Schneider and Keith McCabe with "closed fists," according to the sheriff's office. After being kicked in the face, McCabe used his stun gun and the deputies took Manthey into custody. Neither Manthey nor the deputies required medical attention.

The man was booked on two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting a law enforcement officer with violence.
