Man booked for trafficking in pain pills

Published:

BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville man who called the Hernando County Sheriff's Office about three passengers in his car was arrested early Wednesday on drug trafficking charges.

Steven A. O'Donnell, 56, told responding Deputy William Cooper he hardly knew the people he agreed to give a ride to, and they were causing a disturbance.

An affidavit shows one of the passengers, Terri Nida, told Cooper that O'Donnell had been driving around all night smoking crack, drinking beer and doing other drugs.

A search of O'Donnell's vehicle found 37 pills of an oxycodone mixture.

O'Donnell told law enforcement he did have a prescription for the pain medication, but O'Donnell was booked on charges of trafficking in oxycodone.

Jail records show he continues to be held on $5,000 bond.

Court records show O'Donnell was found guilty of his third DUI within 10 years in 2008.
