Man charged with assault after threatening Walmart employees, police say

Published:

A 52-year-old man who rode into a Brooksville Walmart on a scooter and began verbally abusing employees on Friday morning was arrested on assault charges, police said.

Rickey Joe Stephenson, of Brooksville, rode into Walmart, 7305 Broad St., around 10:45 a.m. and began yelling at two female employees for looking at him, according to a report from the Brooksville Police Department.

The employees called for assistance and Stephenson approached them in an aggressive manner, shouting obscenities and threatening to kill them, the report said.

As he was being escorted out of the store by two managers, Stephenson said he was leaving but would come back with a gun and kill them, according to the report.

Police officers arrested Stephenson after he tried to elude them near another store.

Stephenson was taken to Hernando County Detention Center and his bond was set at $2,000.
