Man charged with burglary after looking through windows with flashlight

BROOKSVILLE - A Spring Hill man was arrested on charges of home burglary and possession of burglary tools Sunday after deputies said he looked with a flashlight through the windows of a home on Lake Lindsey Road.

The homeowner and his brother-in-law saw James Barry Pittman Jr., 24, of Susan Drive, looking into the windows. When they approached him, Pittman fled into woods, Hernando County sheriff's officials said.

A deputy and sheriff's dog tracked Pittman to a spot 250 yards away, according to an arrest report.

Deputies found a 9mm wrench in Pittman's pocket, according to the arrest report, and shoe impressions left at the scene matched the tread on Pittman's shoes, deputies reported.

The homeowner stated in the arrest report that a burglary occurred at the home Friday and two 100-foot extension cords were stolen, one from inside the home and the other outside.

Pittman was being held at Hernando County Jail on $4,000 bail.
