Man hit by truck on S.R. 50

Published:

BROOKSVILLE - Traffic clogged along State Road 50 near the Suncoast Parkway early Tuesday afternoon after a pedestrian and truck collided.

John Michael Edgerton, 27, told an arriving deputy that he did not estimate his crossing time correctly, and was hit by the 2014 tractor trailer.

According to nearby construction workers, a man climbed up on the short barrier separating the construction area from the rest of the westbound lanes, and threw himself in front of the truck.

The driver, Kamau Malik, told law enforcement he didn't have time to react before hitting Edgerton, but that he was able to slow down to about 20 mph.

The FHP report shows Edgerton received a citation for entering the path of a vehicle.

Sgt. Steven Gaskins said the man was transported to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with non-life-threatening injuries.
