SPRING HILL -

A Spring Hill man, out on bond for an arrest five days earlier, was booked in the jail Thursday night after initially refusing to let a deputy search his Spider-Man backpack, according to the sheriff’s office.

Corey Michael Rodriguez, 20, was out on bond for an April 20 arrest of marijuana and drug equipment charges.

A deputy asked to talk with Rodriguez in a shopping plaza near Mariner Boulevard on Thursday night, and saw what appeared to be drug paraphernalia and loose tobacco in his backpack.

Rodriguez admitted to smoking marijuana but when the deputy tried to get a better look inside the bag, Rodriguez pulled the bag away and tried to reach inside.

The deputy pinned Rodriguez to a wall, but the man continued to struggle until taken into custody. He is being held on no bond at the jail.

Court records show Rodriguez avoided a misdemeanor charge of retail theft in 2011 through pre-trial diversion.
