Man shot in stomach in Brooksville expected to recover

BROOKSVILLE - A male who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was banging on doors Sunday around 7:30 a.m. in the area of Gordon Loop is expected to recover from non-life threatening injuries.

According to Hernando County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to residents' 911 calls and arrived on scene where they found the male lying the roadway.

"(He) was combative and very delusional," according to a press release. "Deputies quickly determined that this was the individual that the residents were calling about."

The sheriff's office did not release the victim's name, who may have been a minor.

The victim was treated by paramedics and transported by helicopter to a bay area trauma center.

The sheriff's office said detectives are continuing their investigation into the shooting, and that the shooting incident was isolated to this one male.

"We ask that all residents in this particular area, as well as all other areas of the county, continuously remain vigilant to their surroundings and that residents report any suspicious activity, suspicious persons and/or suspicious vehicles immediately," the press release shows.

The sheriff's office is asking residents to call 911 if a situation is believed urgent, or to call the administrative line at (352) 754-6830 with non-urgent matters.
