Man steals tent from Wal-mart hides out in Denny's, deputies say

SPRING HILL - A 19-year-old Spring Hill man was arrested on Monday night after stealing a tent from Wal-Mart and hiding out in a restaurant, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Cody Pomeroy was seen by loss prevention officers at the 1485 Commercial Way store taking a Coleman four-person tent, valued at $50, and walking out of the store without paying for it, deputies said.

When he was approached by loss prevention, he dropped the tent and ran into the Denny's Restaurant on Wendy Court. When sheriff's deputies arrived, they approached Pomeroy inside the restaurant, and Pomeroy said "How long am I going away for this time?"

Pomeroy was taken back to Wal-Mart so law enforcement could review video footage of the shoplifting. Pomeroy was arrested on charges of petit theft, second offense, the affidavit show.

Bail was not set because Pomeroy was already out on bail from a March 3 arrest on disorderly intoxication charges.

Court records show Pomeroy has been convicted of misdemeanor charges of petit theft, resisting an officer and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
