SPRING HILL – A Spring Hill man who called the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on Friday to report a theft was later arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and resisting arrest, deputies said.

When a deputy returned to Nicholas A. Dias’ Markham Avenue home, they found him asleep on a couch in his garage with a plastic bag of marijuana on his lap, according to an arrest affidavit.

When Dias was woken up by a deputy, he tried to hide the marijuana, the report shows.

When Deputy Brian Timothy tried to put Dias into custody, he attempted to run into his home, and was later taken to the ground and handcuffed.

Dias, 26, continued to resist while being put in a patrol car, the report shows.

He was booked in the Hernando County Jail, and was being held on $1,000 bail.
