BROOKSVILLE - Nedra Joann Byrd, who was arrested in February after her 10-year-old son was found drunk and naked on a Spring Hill street, was sentenced to probation on Tuesday.
Byrd, 32, pleaded guilty in exchange for two years of probation. Judge Anthony Tatti said Byrd will not have any unsupervised contact with the child unless approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Other terms include Byrd attend a parenting and alcohol abuse class, and not keep any alcohol in her Bayside Court home.
Back in February, the sheriff's office said neighbors saw Byrd's son walking naked on his street. His blood alcohol level was measured later at .108. The child told sheriff's deputies he had been drinking Christian Brothers Brandy all day, and that he drank alcohol before.
Byrd was found asleep on her couch by law enforcement, and told them her son was in his room, and that she was "drunk as hell."
Byrd was arrested on child neglect charges on Feb. 15, and released on $1,000 bond later that day.
