Multiple animal adoption events planned for weekend

Published:

BROOKSVILLE - For the past 11 years, Joanne Schoch has been the voice and the face of the Humane Society of the Nature Coast.

This weekend, she'll make one last push as executive director to find homes for homeless pets during the Heart to Heart event.

Friday through Sunday, Schoch and other community members will share the Humane Society's kennels with the animals to attempt to experience life as a shelter animal.

"Come and say thank you to the wonderful people who gave up their Valentine's weekend to help our furry friends," Schoch said.

The public can visit the "kennel mates" from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Participants can be "bailed out" of the kennel by donation during the event.

Adoptions are half off, and money raised during the event will go toward the Humane Society's building fund. Sunday is Schoch's birthday and last official day as executive director.
