BROOKSVILLE - Building Hope in Hernando will hold its 2013 formal dinner dance and black-tie gala Sunday, Nov. 10 at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville.

The "Heroes' Gala" will highlight eight dedicated individuals from the community who are working quietly as volunteers with organizations to make Hernando County a better place to live, according to a flyer announcing the gala.

Gala organizers will share those community members' stories and "inspire others to go out and make a difference in our community," the flyer shows.

This is the second gala of its kind for the organization, said Lynn Van Meter, director of community resources for Habitat for Humanity.

"Last year we had three nominees, and this year we have eight nominees," she said.

"We have secured enough hero sponsors that we'll be bringing all the nominees to the dinner, as well as the guests, so we're very excited about that."

The gala will have entertainment, gourmet food, and an outpouring of appreciation for Hernando County's developments, the flyer shows.

The gala will feature keynote speaker State Sen. Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby), a tribute to veterans by U.S. Rep. Richard Nugent (R-Fla.), since the event will be taking place on Veteran's Day weekend.

"We're excited to have Sen. Wilton Simpson at the dinner because he's a big supporter of Habitat for Humanity, and we anticipate a packed house for the event," Van Meter said.

The Hero of the Year nominees will be presented, along with their stories.

"The committee has been deliberating the nominees, and they're all anonymous so (committee members) don't know who the people are, just information about them."

Attendance of 150 is expected, and the combined sponsorship, advertising sales and ticket sales from the event will provide funding to provide assistance to nonprofit organizations in Hernando County and build homes through Habitat for Humanity for low-income families, the flyer shows.

Tickets range from $1,000 and eight tickets to $5,000 and 16 tickets, according to the flyer, and each with various perks.

"After dinner the hero of the year will be nominated, and all the nominees will be recognized for their efforts and contributions to Hernando County," Van Meter said.

"It'll be an event to remember."

The gala will be held Nov. 10 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Southern Hills Plantation Club, located at 4200 Summit View Dr., Brooksville.
