Victims, suspect identified in Brooksville fatal shooting

One man is dead and a woman is hospitalized after a fight led to a shooting in Hernando County on Saturday.

The incident began as an altercation on Desales Street in Brooksville between several people, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's office. Juan Perez discharged a firearm, hitting Amber Rivenbark and then hitting the Kenneth Schreffler, deputies said.

Schreffler, 43, died at the scene, the sheriff's office said. Rivenbark, 27, was flown to a Tampa Bay area trauma center with a gunshot wound where she is still hospitalized, according to the sheriff's office.

Perez, 29, of Dade City, was arrested at the scene and is charged with second-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and grand theft. He was treated for injuries at a hospital, the sheriff's office said. He was denied bond.
