BROOKSVILLE - A Pasco County man continued to be held on $250 bail Wednesday after taking a soft drink and string cheese from a gas station, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Billy Jack Sharpe, 41, walked out of the Hess Express at 75 S. Broad St. with a Sparkling ICE soft drink and Sargento string cheese, and told the clerk he would have to call the police because he did not have money to pay for the items, valued at $2.38.

Arriving deputies found Sharpe in the parking lot, and the goods consumed.

The affidavit shows Sharpe was arrested after telling deputies he was responsible for the theft, and didn't have any money.

Records do not show Sharpe, a transient, has been arrested in Hernando County in the past.
