Pine Grove asst. principal running for school board

BROOKSVILLE - Heather Urban, assistant principal at Pine Grove Elementary School, last week became the fourth person to announce their candidacy for the Hernando County School Board District 5 seat.

The seat now is held by Cynthia Moore, who is seeking re-election.

Others challenging Moore for the nonpartisan seat are Anna Liisa Covell, a local businesswoman; and Robert Neuhausen, who works for Sparton Electronics.

The last day of candidate qualifying is June 19.

Some 17,000 voters have opted to have a vote-by-mail ballot sent to them for the 2014 elections, according to Shirley Anderson, Hernando's supervisor of elections.

People who want a ballot can call the Supervisor of Elections Office at (352) 754-4125 or visit the website at http://www .hernandovotes.com/

Ballots will be mailed about 30 days before the election.

Anderson said her office has contracted and secured 33 polling locations and four early voting sites for this year's elections. The primary election is Aug. 26 and the general election is Nov. 4.

There were several changes in polling locations this year and people affected by the moves should have received notices by mail.

The changes include:

??Precinct 12 (National Guard Armory) was moved due to construction at the Armory. The new location is the Deerfield Community Clubhouse.

??Precinct 44 (Mission of Seventh Day Adventists) has moved to Sterling Hill Clubhouse North.

??Precinct 13 (Weeki Wachee Area Club) voters now will cast their ballots at Precinct 17 (The Heather)

??Precinct 35 (Timber Pines Lodge) voters will move to Precinct 47 (Timber Pines PAC)

??Precinct 37 (East Hernando Library) will be at Precinct 36 (Hillside Community Church)

??Precinct 53 (Hernando Shrine Club) voters will cast ballots at Precinct 18 (High Point Community Center)
