— Hernando County planning and zoning commissioners Monday voted 5-0 to postpone a decision to grant a Spring Hill woman a special exception use permit to add on to her double-car garage and operate a shelter and boarding kennel for dogs and cats.

Several residents spoke against the request and expressed concerns about the potential of barking coming from the home at 9287 Christine Lane and a reduction of property values.

The applicant, Charlotte Furey, proposes building a 2,838-square-foot addition which would accommodate an office, restroom, grooming area and room or about 10 felines, 20 small dogs and 40 large dogs.

Board members asked for more information and requested the applicant to return at the Aug. 11 planning and zoning meeting.
