BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville man was arrested Wednesday after biting and hitting a Wal-Mart loss prevention officer in the head, according to Brooksville Police.

Shawn Hager, 30, was seen taking a baby monitor valued at $170 out of the store at 7305 Broad St., without paying for it.

When the loss prevention officer tried to detain him, Hager struck and bit him, and hit him in the head with a trash can lid, police said.

Hager was eventually held down until law enforcement arrived.

The officer was treated at a local hospital, according to Brooksville Police.

Hager was arrested on charges of retail theft (third offense), resisting a merchant and battery (second offense). He was being held on $10,500 bail.

Court records show Hager has been convicted of numerous charges in Hernando County in the past, including burglary, battery, retail theft, felony petit theft, and resisting a merchant.
