The Suncoast Dance & Party Center, a club that has been around since the mid-80s, is at again with a show-stopping, foot pounding, polka-style dance event designed to get even the most sedentary on their feet.

Club president, Catherine Feil, said the evening with Walter Ostanek, Canada's Polka King which is scheduled for Sunday, is one of many the club hosts during the year to keep members and the community swinging. "That is what our club is about," Feil said. "We want to keep seniors moving and having a good time."

The afternoon will entail several sets by the infamous Canadian-born Polka King along with food and drink in a festive environment. The cost is $10 for club members and $12 for nonmembers.

The Suncoast Dance & Party Center meets once a month at their club location at 13383 Countyline Rd. in Spring Hill.

"It's a big deal," Feil added. Bringing popular acts like Walter Ostanek takes time to organize. Walter Ostanek has been a visiting act for the club before and is well worth the effort, Catherine said.

The Club has about 50 regular members, a bit removed from the glory days when as many as 130 helped keep dance alive. The economy might be partially to blame for the smaller numbers, Catherine said. She also believes the older generation that made polka music so popular is dying off.

"We have to get the younger people involved," she said.

As president for the past few years, Feil understands how important it is to bring big names in the entertainment field to their club on County Line Road. Acts like Walter Ostanek, "Canada's Polka King," are always eagerly anticipated. The show promises to deliver in high energy rhythm and dance.

According to his website, Walter Ostanek was born in Duparquet Quebec in 1935 and has become the world's polka music ambassador.

Ostanek has played for the Suncoast Dance & Party Center before and Feil expects to have as many as 100 or more people in attendance. "He's that good," she said.
