BROOKSVILLE - A sheriff's K-9 apprehended an alleged burglar on Friday after biting the suspect in the buttocks.
According to the sheriff's office, a suspect, later identified as James Ryan Harrell, was seen breaking into Big B's New and Used Tires at 13379 Chambord St., but took off as law enforcement arrived.
K-9 Deputy Jason Jernigan and K-9 Dzel tracked Harrell, 31, to a business nearby. Dzel bit Harrell before deputies took him into custody. Harrell was treated at an area hospital before being booked in the Hernando County Jail on two charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure. His bond is set at $6,000.
Harrell confessed to breaking into the business the previous day and taking four tires for his truck. The Spring Hill man said he broke in on Friday to steal tires and rims to re-sell, according to the sheriff's office.
Court records show Harrell has been found guilty of felonies and criminal traffic charges in the past, and has been charged with three misdemeanors this year.
