SPRING HILL -

A 26-year-old Spring Hill man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a deputy doing a traffic stop found a “large machete” in the man’s vehicle, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

A background check showed that John Andrew Wright has been a registered felon since 2009. Florida Statute 790.23 forbids a convicted felon from possessing or using a firearm, ammunition, electric weapon device or carrying a concealed weapon. Wright was booked at the Hernando County Jail on no bond status.

Court records show Wright was adjudicated guilty of cocaine possession in November 2009, of marijuana possession with the intent to sell in August 2010, as well as various traffic charges.

In January of this year, charges of cocaine and marijuana possession were filed against Wright, as well as tampering with physical evidence and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Wright will be arraigned on April 16.
