SPRING HILL A Spring Hill man who said he was robbed at gunpoint earlier this month has been charged with filing a false police report, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

On April 2, Steven Peluso told deputies he had been robbed of $100 near Kass Circle. Detectives did note “several inconsistencies” in Peluso’s account of the event, and during a recent interview, the man said he made the robbery story up.

Peluso told detectives he was buying drugs with the money, and his dealer took off with his cash before handing over the pain pills.

“When Peluso got home he did not know what to tell his wife so he made up the whole ‘armed robbery’ story,” a report stated.

Court records show that Peluso was charged in 2012 with three counts of drug and paraphernalia possession, but avoided a guilty sentence through a pretrial diversion program.
