SPRING HILL A 60-year-old Spring Hill man died Monday morning after losing control of his jeep, colliding with two mailboxes, a telephone pole, tree and two homes.

The driver, Douglas Tietjen, was believed to have suffered from a medical condition when he lost control.

A Florida Highway Patrol report said Tietjen was traveling east on Spring Hill Drive when he lost control. After initially coming to a stop, the jeep accelerated across the westbound lanes of Spring Hill Drive and traveled onto the north shoulder of the road, colliding with the mailboxes on the shoulder and a telephone pole.

He sideswiped a parked vehicle, struck a tree and a home at 1451 Bentley Ave., causing about $5,000 damage.

Following that collision, the jeep traveled northeast across the road and came to rest after hitting a second home at 1452 Bentley Ave., causing about $20,000 damage.

Residents were home at both locations but were not injured.

The driver was taken to Spring Hill Regional Hospital where he died.
