Spring Hill man threatens step father with hatchet

Published:

SPRING HILL - A domestic disturbance Sunday afternoon on Mayflower Road between a 22-year-old man and his step-father escalated when the step-son grabbed a hatchet-hammer and confronted his step-father with it.

John Leslie Caswell Jr., of Spring Hill, was in a verbal dsipute with his step-father over Caswell's license plate being removed from his car.

According to an arrest report, the step-father went into his bedroom to lay down to separate himself from Caswell, and Caswell went into his room and removed from his bed board a carpenter tool with a hammer on one end, and a hatchet on the other.

Caswell then entered his step-father's room and confronted him with the hammer-hatchet, and Caswell's mother intervened, asking Caswell to return to his room, according to the report.

Deputies arrived and Caswell, his mother, and step-father corroborated the same narrative, at which time Caswell was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Caswell is being held without bond, jail records show, and do not show Caswell has been arrested in Hernando County in the past.
