SPRING HILL — A Spring Hill man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday after trying to hit his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend with a pickup, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Cesar Agusto Abanto, 24, of 7298 Lamplighter St., is accused of driving into a driveway on Tropical Drive, where his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend lives. Witnesses said that Abanto drove his 2000 Ford ranger into the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier parked in the driveway, causing the victim to jump out of the way.

Witnesses said that Abanto backed up and drove at the man a second time, when the victim threw a large block of wood at Abanto’s windshield, breaking it.

Abanto got out of the truck, yelled that his name was Cesar and fled, an arrest report said. He was taken to the Hernando County Jail, where bail was set at $2,000. There was no record of Abanto at the jail on Tuesday.
