SPRING HILL - Two cars collided at the intersection of State Road 50 and Deltona Boulevard on Monday, causing a four car pile-up by Blackbird Avenue.
During the initial wreck, a gray Chevy Impala with front passenger-side damages stopped in the grass median west of the intersection, and a red Ford came to rest in the right westbound lane of traffic, facing east.
The female driver of the Chevy was in pain when she was lifted onto the stretcher and placed in an ambulance, and emergency medical personnel said she was complaining about pains in her ankle, which contained pins from a surgery years before.
She was transported to Oak Hill Hospital.
The female driver of the Ford was also placed on a stretcher, and transported to Oak Hill Hospital with the male passenger of the vehicle riding along.
The two-lanes of traffic on S.R. 50, both east and west, were diverted to one lane to accommodate the ambulances.
Shortly after the wreck, two compact cars, a pickup truck, and a minivan were involved in a four car pile-up east of the intersection of Deltona Boulevard and S.R. 50, and also in the westbound lane of traffic. There were no injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, and there were lesser damages than the first wreck.
The back windshield of the minivan was blown out, dented in, and the back right tire did not rotate when the minivan was driven to the shoulder by law enforcement.
The front of the pickup truck was also visibly damaged.
For more than 30 minutes, traffic was bumper-to-bumper from the intersection of Deltona Boulevard and S.R. 50 passed Withlacoochee River Electric.
