BROOKSVILLE - The Hernando County Sheriff's Office completed its investigation into a pair of shootings that occurred May 23, and both cases have now been turned over to the State Attorney's Office.
Assistant State Attorney Sonny McCathran said homicide prosecutor Pete Magrino was reviewing the reports.
The two shooting incidents are unrelated.
On May 23 at 12:29 a.m., Hernando County deputies responded to 6991 Pinehurst Dr. in Spring Hill regarding an altercation involving Michael Alexander Challis and two adult males.
As a result of the altercation, Challis was shot and transported to a bay area trauma center with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. The other party involved in the incident was identified as Christopher Asciolla, 28.
Across town, also on May 23 at 8:21 p.m., Hernando County deputies responded to 8743 Ostrom Way in Weeki Wachee where an altercation between George Avedissian, 68, and his roommate Joshua Harth, 24, resulted in Avedissian being shot.
Avedissian was transported to Oak Hill Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. The following day was his birthday.
