Three Spring Hill teens charged in apartment burglary, arson

Published:

SPRING HILL - Three male juveniles were arrested Tuesday on arson and burglary charges stemming from an incident Saturday at a vacant apartment at 10553 Chalmer St.

Deputies say the three juveniles entered the apartment, and one set a section of carpet on fire in an upstairs bedroom.

Witnesses believe they saw two of the male juveniles at the same apartment Tuesday and notified law enforcement, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrived and arrested the two, who were interviewed by detectives.

Both juveniles admitted to the burglary and told detectives the third juvenile started Saturday's fire, deputies said.

The third suspect was arrested at his home and was also interviewed by detectives. He denied setting the fire but admitted that he was at the vacant apartment with the other two, deputies said.

The Hernando Today is not naming the suspects because of their age.

"This crime is particularly troubling and shows that these juveniles are not just being mischievous," Sheriff Al Nienhuis said.

The juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Detention Facility in Ocala.
