Troopers searching for driver who hit pedestrian in Hernando

SPRING HILL — A pedestrian was seriously injured Saturday night after he was hit by a car on Landover Boulevard in Hernando County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

David Matthew Smith, 44, of Spring Hill, was walking along Landover, north of Thornberry Drive, when the car left the road and struck him around 8:50 p.m., records said. Walking beside Smith at the time was Dannielle Nicole Gibbons, 25, also of Spring Hill.

Smith was taken to Oak Hill Hospital before being transferred to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, the highway patrol said.

The car was described as a dark, late-model car. It likely has heavy damage to the right front end and headlight. Any witness, or anyone with information about the car or driver, is asked to call the FHP at (813) 631-4020 or contact Crime Stoppers.
