Two men were arrested after fight between a brother and a sister in the middle of a Spring Hill street on Friday morning, deputies said.
Edward Diaz, 22, was charged with domestic battery after punching his sister in the face when she got out of her car in the 1200 block of Sylvia Avenue, according to a release from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Russell James Laux Jr., 24, was charged with resisting arrest after running from the scene and refusing to listen to police, the report said.
The victim told deputies that she was in a heated argument with her brother, who lives with her, when he jumped on the roof of her car and started to cave it in, according to the report.
She then left in her car to avoid any more damage.
Diaz was seen running after his sister’s vehicle with Laux right behind him, according to the report. When the car stopped and the victim got out, Diaz punched her in the face, nearly causing her to fall over, the report said.
When a deputy who witnessed the incident activated the lights and sirens on his patrol vehicle, Laux ran from the scene, according to the report.
The deputy told Laux to stop several times but he continued to run, deputies said.
After his arrest, Diaz told deputies that his sister tried to run him over and he was retaliating, according to the report.
While Diaz was being placed in custody, Laux was seen running toward the incident but when he saw the deputy, he ran away, again disobeying orders to stop, according to the report.
When Laux returned a third time, he acted like he wasn’t involved. After his arrest, Laux said he ran because he didn’t like to speak to law enforcement, due to his history, according to the report.
