A 28-year-old Weeki Wachee man is being held on $100,000 bond after striking a family member with his Ford Expedition on Friday.

Hernando County Sheriff deputies arrived at Fentress Court around 5:30 p.m. and learned Phillip Atkins had had an argument with a relative.

He left, but returned a short while later and hit the man with the SUV.

The victim was taken to a local trauma center with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Saturday, neighbor Linda Mulch said she heard screaming and yelling coming from the home, and that when she went outside she saw a man lying on the ground.

Mulch said the victim called out for help and that he couldn’t move his legs. Her family and neighbors called 911.

Atkins was arrested on charges of aggravated battery to cause bodily harm or disability. The investigation is ongoing.
