Woman charged with biting child, deputies say

Published:

SPRING HILL - A Spring Hill woman was arrested on child abuse and drug charges early Wednesday after Hernando deputies say she bit and scratching a child under 18 in her care.

Alba Fox became drunk and irate at her Centerwood Avenue home on Tuesday night, according to an arrest affidavit, causing two individuals she recently met at Wal-Mart to become uncomfortable and leave.

When the juvenile tried to stop Fox from throwing and breaking items in the home, she attacked him, and scratched his upper body and bit his arm hard enough to leave a large, discolored mark, deputies said.

The boy fled and law enforcement was called.

Fox initially told deputies on scene she had just picked up the child from a friend's house. When the deputy told her it was nearly midnight, she started crying and said "it was an accident," according to the report.

Fox had also left her 2-year-old unattended during the ordeal, according to deputies.

The Florida Department of Children and Families took the children to a family member's home.

Fox was also arrested on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia when investigators found two marijuana pipes in her medicine cabinet.

She is being held in lieu of $5,500 bail. Fox is an Italian citizen, but the consulate was not contacted per Fox's request, the affidavit shows.

Court records show Fox was convicted of careless driving in December, and charged with the same driving offense in February.
