A week later at the 2A-Region V Meet at New Port Richey's Fox Hollow Golf Club, Dixon was the lone Hernando County linkster to advance to states thanks to an 18-hole 39-36-75 total . At the 83rd annual FHSAA Finals at Howey-in-the-Hills' Mission Inn along the El Campeon course, Dixon finished tied for 47th out of 95 players behind a 36-hole 87-82-169 total . Dixon was the first Eagle player to reach states since Springstead placed 10th at states in 1990 led by Danny Latoria . The last Hernando County representative at states was Hernando High's Fred Farmer in 2000.

QUOTES: "Brazon had a great season. He led us in scoring all season long. . After districts and regionals, he was understandably a little nervous at states. He had a lot going on in his mind . I'm going to miss the way he drives the ball so long. . Before the season I wasn't sure we had anyone who could replace Nicoll. As good as Nicoll was, Brazon went further by reaching states."

- Springstead head coach Greg Odachowski

"Brazon dominated us during the regular season. He's an excellent golfer who took care of business during the postseason. . To me; he led his team to the district championship. Other kids had good seasons, but none of them ended up at states."

- Central head coach Tyson Ellis

"Brazon finished the year strong - making it to states."

- Weeki Wachee head coach Craig Witte

"Brazon deserves credit. He's the only guy (from Hernando County) to make it to states; he advanced the furthest."

- Hernando head coach Rodney Byrd

- Hernando head coach Rodney Byrd

Jake Arnett

Nature Coast - Junior

COMMENTS: A three-time All-County pick . Helped pace the Sharks to a school-record 13-3 regular season, featuring a perfect 10-0 slate against county teams . Led the local circuit in nine-hole rounds (20) and in scoring (37.7) .Scored a season-low, nine-hole 35 four times . As a frosh, Arnett opened eyes finishing seventh in the county in scoring average (44.3), shooting a team-best 40-44-84 in the 1A-8 Tourney and reaching the 1A-III Tourney - where he carded a respectable 18-hole 89 . As a sophomore, he whittled his nine-hole average more than five strokes finishing third in the circuit in scoring (39.0) . His seasonal highlights included an 18-hole 39-35-74 at The Dunes to place runner-up to Nicoll in the Hernando County Championship . A week later on the same course, Arnett earned district medalist honors with an outstanding one-under-par 36-35-71 total . At the 1A-III Meet at Saddlebrook he shot a five-over-par 77.

QUOTES "Jake had one bad round on the back nine at regionals; those things happen. . Mentally, I know what he was going through. The pressure kept building on him. . The entire season revolved around those last nine holes, particularly the last six. He realized he short-sided himself. . He'll tell you that his short game isn't where it should be. . Looking ahead, he wants to keep his swing and he's got to improve on mentally controlling the damage. There's no doubt he'll be in the same situation (contending to go to states) next year. . He's got good enough game to place at states. . Now, it's a matter of managing his emotions. Once that happens, look out."

- Nature Coast head coach Tom Brown

Ben has a nice swing tempo that I think will greatly benefit him/us next year."

- Springstead head coach Greg Odachowski

Coach of the Year

Greg Odachowski

Springstead - 2nd Year

COMMENTS: Replaced five-time Coach of the Year Sonny Long following the 2011 season . Repeat unanimous selection as COY . Though NCT went 10-0 against the county brethren this season, Springstead solved the Sharks on their home course during the 2A-13 Tournament in sudden death . The following week in a pressured packed 2A-V Meet, the Eagles placed fourth out of nine teams while the Sharks placed eighth - a difference of 23 strokes . In 2012, despite playing a county-low six matches, the 4-2 Eagles fileted their closest rivals at the Hernando County Championship - the Sharks, 320-345 ... In districts, SHS tied for fourth out of 12 teams.

QUOTES: "I was quite impressed with how the team played down the stretch. I thought we had an awesome year to beat Nature Coast in districts and in regionals. . The key is to keep moving forward. . The key to this year's team was how close we grew together. . We learned to rely on each other. . The last thing on my mind was winning districts. . What I enjoyed was how well we competed in districts and in the following week at regionals. . This group of kids never gave up and we put our best foot forward during the toughest part of our schedule. . The great thing is of the kids coming back - they're all capable of playing better."

- Odachowski

"It didn't matter that Nature Coast owned all of us during the regular season. Springstead deserves credit the way they handled their business on NCT's home course at districts and again at regionals. . Coach Odachowski did a great job of keeping them focused and on task."

- Central head coach Tyson Ellis

"They (Springstead) won the district. They beat us at regionals - to me, it was an easy choice (for COY)."

- Nature Coast head coach Tom Brown

"He led his team to the district championship."

- Weeki Wachee head coach Craig Witte

"This one was simple. His team won districts and did well in regionals; hats off to him."

- Hernando head coach Rodney Byrd
