The FHSAA on Thursday denied Nature Coast's appeal of defensive end/wide receiver Rohan Blackwood's three-week suspension.
On Monday the penalty was handed down after the senior was ejected from last Friday's preseason classic at Citrus for throwing a punch that did not connect.
A review of the game tape, according to Nature Coast head coach Charles Liggett, revealed that Blackwood did not in fact throw a punch, causing the school to attempt to lessen the ban.
Though Blackwood was definitely out for Friday's season opener at Crystal River, the hope was he could return for the Sept. 13 home opener against Springstead. The Sharks have a bye next week.
Instead he will not be eligible to make his season debut until Sept. 20 against Central.
Blackwood was an All-County selection in 2012 behind 78 tackles and 14 sacks. He enters this season with 11 offers from Division I colleges.
