BROOKSVILLE - The Nature Coast boys tennis team easily handled Gulf to capture a 7-0 win in a Class 2A, Region IV semifinal held at Nature Coast Wednesday afternoon.
The Sharks (15-2) swept Gulf (5-7) in all four singles matches as well as both doubles.
Nature Coast's top-seeded doubles team of Jesse DeWitt and Conner Schwefringhaus defeated its Gulf opponents Alex Walker and Askash Panjabi, 6-0, 6-1.
DeWitt and Schwefringhaus, both juniors, won their singles matches, as well.
"This win definitely gives us confidence going into the regional final," said Schwefringhaus of his and DeWitt's doubles performance.
DeWitt admitted his serves could have been better but remains optimistic, mostly because of the strong chemistry with his teammate.
Also in action were the doubles team of Jerry Bianculli and Nick Pais, who defeated Gulf's Robin Michalson and Lasia Lo at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2.
Nature Coast also saw strong singles performances from Alec Lund, beating Robin Michalson at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1, Charles Buckner, downing Vaibhav Ghandi at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0, and Dakota Willey, besting Minh Le at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2.
Coach Tom Brown was pleased with the consistency of his team.
"The win gives us confidence but more importantly, it puts us one step closer to our goal," said Brown.
Due to this match being delayed a day by Tuesday's rain, the Sharks will quickly turn around and host Pasco in a 2A-IV final Thursday at 3 p.m.
