Nature Coast senior defensive end Rohan Blackwood has verbally committed to sign with USF a week from today on National Signing Day.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Blackwood, who recorded 186 tackles and 25 sacks in three seasons with the Sharks, initially committed to Wisconsin in September.
However, due to concerns that he would not be able to meet the academic requirements, both the school and Blackwood's family mutually decided to back out, said Blackwood's father, Anthony Contegiacomo.
The fear, Contegiacomo said, was that if things fell through with the Badgers, Blackwood would be forced to sign with a junior college.
Prior to last season, Blackwood listed the Bulls among l1 Division I teams that extended him an offer.
"We're happy," Contegiacomo said. "He's happy he's going to be close to home."
