CLEARWATER - Springstead's boys and girls each captured third place behind Land O' Lakes and Lecanto in Saturday's Class 2A, District 6 Meet at The Long Center.

Eagle senior Morgan Kiloh qualified for regionals as runner-up in two individual events, the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.14) and 100 butterfly (57.72). Springstead also captured a district title in the 200-free relay, as Hunter Geisen, Matthew Sundell, Trey Patterson and Kiloh teamed to swim a 1:37.23.

Only the top two finishers in individual races and district championship relays automatically earned a berth into the 2A-Region II Meet Friday in Orlando. The remaining field will be filled out by at-large berths.

The Land O' Lakes girls beat out Lecanto, 558-438. The Lady Gators edged out the Lady Panthers, with Springstead (227 points), Pasco (183) and Hudson (151) rounding out the top five teams.

On the boys side, Lecanto was able to upend Land O' Lakes and won the district's top spot with a 352-318 advantage. Springstead (277), Pasco (248) and Weeki Wachee (169) also finished out the top five teams.

"We were absolutely pleased with the results," Springstead coach Wayne Withington said. "Going into this, we were thinking we could finish somewhere around third place and that's what we were able to do. We're hoping this finish can help gain some interest in swimming within our county, not just our team."
