HUDSON - A new district foe stood in Fivay's way Friday night, as Springstead traveled to Falcon Stadium for an important Class 6A, District 6 matchup.

Behind a strong rushing attack and tenacious defense, the Eagles were able to control the contest throughout in a 34-0 victory over the Falcons.

Springstead (5-0 overall, 2-0 6A-6) opened up the scoring, capping a nine-play, 73-yard drive with a 33-yard touchdown run by junior running back Robert Holdway with 7:27 left in the first quarter.

The Eagles stayed with an efficient, up-tempo option attack and were able to roll up 184 yards rushing by halftime.

Fivay (2-3 overall, 0-1 6A-6) was only able to produce 13 yards on the ground off 13 carries. Springstead was able to put together more than 200 yards of offense by halftime.

By intermission, the Eagles tagged on three more scores and held the Falcons offense to a mere 27 yards, including holding Fivay senior tailback Davion Sutton (14 carries, 55 yards) to one yard off seven touches.

Eagles quarterback Tyler Mahla was taken out of the game midway through the third quarter, with Springstead up 34-0. Mahla finished the night completing 7-of-12 passes for 47 and rushing for 139 yards on 10 attempts.

It would end up being a tough night for Fivay quarter Eric Vitale, who completed 2-of-15 passes for 14 yards and was hindered by six drops by Falcon wide receivers.

The Eagles would spend the entire fourth quarter running out the clock with running back Malcom Fitts.
