Springstead's Poholek out for the year

Springstead senior forward Anna Poholek will miss the remainder of the season with a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, head coach George Bennett confirmed Friday night.

Last season's Hernando Today Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Poholek had not played since initially injuring her knee Dec. 5 at Anclote. She had been averaging 10.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 1.9 assists and 1.6 blocks per game.

Coming into the season, the two-time All-County selection had set or broken school records for points in a game (38), 3-pointers in a game (six), rebounds in a season (238), career rebounds (563), career blocks (49), single-season blocks (27), single-season assists (49) and career assists (97).

The Lady Eagles are 1-4 without Poholek, and 6-7 overall, 0-4 in Class 6A, District 10.
