Pasco rolls through Weeki Wachee, 46-7

WEEKI WACHEE - Weeki Wachee faced struggles both offensively and defensively in Friday's night's 46-7 loss to Class 5A, District 6 foe Pasco.

"Tonight was definitely not the performance we were looking for," said Hornets head coach Mark Lee. "Pasco's a pretty good team and it was things like turnovers and other miscues on offense that kept us out of the game."

The Pirates (3-3 overall, 1-2 5A-6) took advantage of a struggling Hornet (2-5 overall, 1-3 5A-6) defense and mounted a successful running performance.

Lee admitted that his defense had been kept on the field longer than it should have over the course of the game.

Pasco running back Malik Johns ran for 193 yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns. The Pirates also received a strong performance from Tyler Barber, who ran for 114 yards on 24 carries.

Pasco quarterback Grant Starling threw for 65 yards and scored two rushing. touchdowns. Starling was also picked off by Weeki Wachee twice, once by Tyler Wiley.

"I was pleased with Wiley's performance on defense, he came up with some good plays," said Lee.

Pasco also took advantage of a woeful Weeki Wachee offense that surrendered a safety in the third quarter.

Weeki Wachee, whose offensive efforts were thoroughly suppressed, only managed to put up 116 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Marcus Allen threw for 46 yards and two interceptions. In the first quarter, Allen found receiver Dayonta Patterson, who hauled in an impressive 19-yard catch to tie the game at 7-7. This was the only scoring play for the Hornets.

"Moving forward, we definitely need to improve both on offense and defense," said Lee. "We need to execute better offensively and stop the big plays."
