Hernando Crime Stoppers holds Vets Day party

Published:

In honor of local veterans, the Hernando County Crime Stoppers will host "Red, White, Blues & Country: A Veteran's Day Celebration" on Saturday night at Strong Tower Vineyard & Winery.

Those who attend will enjoy sitting in the vineyard under the stars, listening to blues and country music by Brooksville's own "The Blues Pig Band", followed by local award-winning country artist, Jenny Rimmer.

The Blues Pig Band gets their name from the blues music they play and the two "men in blue" who play for the band: Sgt. Steve Mislyan and Lt. John Messer work for the Brooksville Police Dept.

A presentation of colors by members of the American Legion Post #186 in Spring Hill will open the night's festivities.

Tickets to the event are $15 at the gate, cash only, and include a complimentary wine tasting from the vineyard. In addition, food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase, along with raffle tickets for prizes.

Numerous items have been donated from businesses in the community for raffle, including a 46" flat screen TV, outdoor barbecue grills, Show Palace Dinner Theatre tickets, local restaurant gift certificates, golfing packages, a guided kayaking trip down the river from Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, automotive care gift certificates, and wine and cheese gift packages, said Hernando County Crime Stoppers coordinator, Teresa Garcia.

Food vendors at the event will include Holy Smokes, Lizzie T's Coffee House, Bayou Cajun Cuisine and desserts from Fisher Honey Bees.

"Everything from barbecue food, to Cajun food, and desserts made with honey," said Garcia.

Lizzie T's Coffee house will provide barbecue baby back ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, and pumpkin pies.

Holy Smokes will offer sausage and pepper submarine sandwiches, garlic grilled chicken sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs.

Bayou Cajun Cuisine will supply Cajun gumbo, red beans and sausage, seafood bisque, and jambalaya.

The celebration concert event will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the vineyard, 17810 Forge Drive, in Spring Hill. Be sure to bring a lawn chair or lawn blanket and a flashlight.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hernando County Crime Stoppers organization, a 501(C) 3 non-profit group that works with law enforcement agencies to prevent and solve crimes in communities and schools. All board members of the Hernando County Crime Stoppers are volunteers and are Hernando County citizens and business people.
