A Spring Hill man died Monday night, a day after being booked into Hernando County jail on a domestic battery charge.

Hernando County deputies say William Edward Collins, 64, was transported to the jail's medical unit Monday after the staff observed him sweating profusely and becoming pale.

Deputies say Collins was hospitalized after briefly passing out and and regaining consciousness.

Collins was only able to communicate with hospital staff for a short time. He was immediately taken into surgery, and died later Monday with what has been preliminarily identified as a "ruptured abdominal aortic aneurism."

An autopsy will be performed, according to the Hernando County medical examiner's office.
