Brooksville man struck, killed after going to mailbox

A Hernando County man was killed Saturday night as he was walking back to his home after going to the mailbox.

On February 15th at

About 9:45 p.m., Paul Patrosky of Brooksville was southbound on C.R. 493 north of Sun Road in a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At the same time, Burl Batten, 62, of Brooksville, was headed west across C.R. 493 from his mailbox to his home at 9425 Sunshine Grove Road.

Patrosky failed to see Batten, FHP said, then tried to avoid a collision but the right front of the car struck Batten, knocking him onto the west shoulder of the road.

Batten died at the scene.
