A Hernando County deputy has been fired for misconduct when he drove a woman home after an accident last week, according to the sheriff's office.
About 2 a.m. Thursday, Martinez was supporting the Florida Highway Patrol on a single-vehicle accident near Deltona Boulevard and Founder Road in Spring Hill, the sheriff's office said.
Witnesses said the trooper completed the investigation, and then Martinez gave the woman driver who was involved in the accident a ride home.
The next day, she went to the sheriff's office to report that inappropriate conduct and contact with Martinez during the drive, the sheriff's office said. Martinez denied anything happened.
The woman then submitted physical evidence that was submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing on Friday, and the results returned Monday showed Martinez was not telling the truth, the sheriff's office said.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis terminated Martinez for immoral conduct and his inability to tell the truth when questioned, according to the sheriff's office.
Martinez was arrested about 6:30 p.m., and was released on $2,500 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 11.
