Hernando County Sheriff

Nugent The Best, Only Choice

In our view, there is only one choice for Hernando County Sheriff, Richard Nugent, the Republican incumbent.

We believe the sheriff has managed his resources effectively to provide the best possible law enforcement for the taxpayer dollars spent. The sheriff has disciplined deputies and their supervisors where necessary and has demonstrated integrity in his leadership of Hernando County's law enforcement.

We believe in these challenging economic times the sheriff must be creative in finding ways to reduce expenses and costs to the taxpayers. Yes, quality law enforcement is important, which we believe the sheriff is delivering. However, achieving greater efficiency as well as maintaining quality will be his greatest challenge for this next term.

Two other people on the ballot are: Luke Frazier, a Democrat, and Marc Reusch, a write-in candidate. In our view neither has the qualifications, background or experience to lead the sizeable Hernando County Sheriff's organization.

We recommend Nugent for sheriff; he has the experience, the character and the skill to provide the best law enforcement for our citizens.

Hernando County School Board, District 4

Yant Deserves Your Vote

Both men vying for the District 4 seat on the Hernando County School Board would make excellent school board members.

Gene Magrini and James C. Yant are class individuals with one main goal in mind: to serve their community by ensuring the best quality public education for the children of Hernando County.

It's not often that a political race features the caliber of individuals in this contest. It's a shame one has to lose.

That being said, it's the recommendation of the Hernando Today editorial board that voters elect Yant to the District 4 seat.

Yant brings to the school board a broader view of the district, understanding clearly the differences between the needs of Brooksville area students and Spring Hill students. His passion for wanting to get more parents and businesses involved in education is admirable and a goal that we believe he can help the district achieve. His longtime educational and business experience also gives him an edge over his rival.

Yant has served this community for many years, from working in the school district to being a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor and volunteer. Yant's long-term commitment to this community shows how much he cares, which leads us to believe that he will continue that passion as a member of the school board.

Hernando County voters would be well-served by having Yant on the school board. They should cast their ballots for him Tuesday, Nov. 4.
